By the way, your intuition is correct, the first frame is pretty much straight out of a skit or a cutscene at the start of the secnd story arc, though I believe that was on the way to Heliord.
Just the first panel? I kind of feel like the whole concept of riding on Repede may have been mentioned somewhere. But it also might have just been me, since I had been hoping to ride on Repede the same way you could ride on Noishe in Symphonia. I guess Repede is a lot smaller than Noishe though, so it makes sense that you can't. ...But it still would have been handy.
Anyway, at least you have a giant sky-whale.
